With a bite strong enough to break the skin and a desire to “f---ing bash” the residents on a quiet suburban street, a 20-year-old Mackay mother lashed out at police as they tried to calm her down.
Aleeha Jane Huntingdon Brown was arrested after drunkenly threatening to assault residents in Ravenshoe, just south of Cairns, on June 19, 2021.
Police were called to Grigg St at 10.47pm after witnesses said Brown was yelling at them.
When police arrived, Brown was heard telling neighbours “whether the cops are there or not, I’ll f---ing bash you”, and calling them “dumb c--ts”.
Brown had chased a resident on the street, trying to hit him as he ran away.
Prosecutor Harry Coburn told the court the officers were arresting Brown for public nuisance when she started walking away.
When police tried to restrain Brown, she latched onto the officer’s hand with her teeth, biting down with enough force to break the skin and cause a clear abrasion.
She threatened the officers, and said “I’ll make sure you get fired c--t”, as she was arrested.
As officers walked Brown to the police car, she flailed her arms to try and free herself.
Brown told police she had consumed “at least five double vodka red bulls and some mid-strength beers”.
She recorded a 0.145 per cent blood alcohol concentration at the police station.
Mackay Magistrate Damien Dwyer said Brown had a “nasty history”.
“You’ve been there (in a watch-house) before obviously,” he said, referring to her arrest history across the state.
“How did we rate, do we go all right for watch-houses?”
Brown said it was “not the best place to be right now”.
Mr Dwyer said it was her choice to spend four days in custody.
“There’s 100,000 people out here that never go there, we’d rather you didn’t be there too,” he said.
“We’d rather you didn’t bite police officers, we’d rather you stayed away from drugs.
“You’re the one who keeps making the decisions.
“I think you should go to prison, but you’re very young, and I think the community wouldn’t expect us to close the door behind you just yet.”
Brown was ordered to perform 200 hours of unpaid community service in the next 12 months, fined $600 and given a 15-month period of supervision.
Convictions were recorded.
