Aiia Maasarwe’s three sisters have appeared at a vigil in Israel calling for an end to violence against women, and for their murdered sister’s body to be returned home for burial.
Noor, Roba and Lena, Aiia’s beloved sisters, appeared at a vigil alongside 400 others in their home town of Baqa al-Gharibyye in Israel overnight.
Supporters of the family gathered near the Abu Bacher Mosque close to the family compound, calling for Aiia’s body to be returned, and for violence against woman to end.
Holding signs written in English, Arabic and Hebrew, the crowd called for Aiia’s body be returned immediately to Israel.
The crowd shouted “bring back Aiia”, and “every minute, every second counts” and “bring Aiia home now.”
One sign called on the Israeli foreign ministry to help speed up the repatriation of Aiia’s body.
Eldest sister Noor, who had flown in from China, called for Aiia to be returned to her family.
“We lost our sister, we lost her soul and we want her back right now,’’ Noor said.
“This is a message to the prime minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu that we need Aiia home (and) right now she needs to be back here between us and her family.
“We all miss her. I can’t believe that we just lost her.’’
Noor said she had been going to visit Aiia, the second-eldest of the four sisters, next weekend
“Now she will come visit us, but only her body,’’ she said.
“I still cannot believe it.
“I have no words to say I’m in shock.
“I can’t believe I lost my sister forever, just like that.
“She did nothing, she was just walking in the street back home, that’s what she did.
“This needs to stop.
“We where born to live, not to die like this.’’
Noor said the person who killed her sister should be punished, and the family would not be silenced.
“We are not going to be quit, we’re gonna be loud, we’re gonna be very loud, we are angry, we are very angry and mad,’’ she said.
“This is not acceptable. I still cannot believe that at the beginning
I thought she was kidnapped and she was murdered just like that.’’
