Geelong captain Patrick Dangerfield and two other senior regulars face fitness tests ahead of the Cats’ clash with North Melbourne on Sunday.
Dangerfield picked up a hamstring injury towards the end of Geelong’s win over Adelaide in round two and has missed their last two victories over Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs — which came in the space of five days.
Veteran Zach Tuohy was managed for the Hawks contest but is no certainty to face the Roos this weekend after sustaining a minor ankle injury against the Bulldogs, while in-form defender Jake Kolodjashnij also faces a fitness test on his quad.
“Pat is looking really good. Everything has gone to plan so far with his rehab,” Cats assistant football boss Brett Johnson said.
“He had a really good session in Adelaide over the weekend. He’ll train this week and if he ticks everything off, he’ll be a test later in the week.”
“Unfortunately throughout the game, Zach Tuohy just tweaked his ankle and was able to play out the game.
“We expect him to train this week and be a test. ‘Kola’ (Kolodjashnij) late in the game had a bit of tightness in his quad. So as long as he gets through everything this week he’ll be a test as well to play against North Melbourne to play on Sunday.”
“Unfortunately throughout the game, Zach Tuohy just tweaked his ankle and was able to play out the game.
Meanwhile, forward Gary Rohan is available to play after being sidelined since the pre-season with a back injury which had restricted him throughout the pre-season.
But the 192-game Cat could be forced to earn his spot in the reserves with Geelong’s forward line firing.
“If he gets through training this week, he will be available to play,” Johnson said.
In a further positive, two-time best-and-fairest winner Cam Guthrie returned to full training last week and is in line to return as early as their important clash against Carlton in round seven.
