One in twelve people on the Gold Coast have had Covid-19, according to the latest data from Queensland Health. See the worst suburbs, and every case mapped.

One in twelve people on the Gold Coast have had Covid-19, according to the latest data from Queensland Health.

Current figures put the Gold Coast’s population at around 721,000, and according to new figures, the city has recorded 59,736 cases of coronavirus since December 13.

This comes as chief health officer Dr John Gerrard speculated at which Covid-19 restrictions would be the first to go, as “Omicron wave is coming to an end”.

Face mask and vaccination mandates could be removed within weeks if hospitalisation numbers continue to fall.

“If some of these restrictions were to be withdrawn … such as masks then that would be purely on the understanding that if there was a resurgence of infection then masks will be reintroduced, say if that would happen in the winter,” Dr Gerrard said.

The Gold Coast’s north is still recording the most cases, with 7028 diagnosed in Coomera and Pimpama to date.

Infection rates in the southern suburbs have slowed.

As of Monday the Gold Coast remains behind the state average, with 89 per cent single-dosed, and 87.1 per cent double-dosed.

The state rate is 92.37 per cent single-dosed and 90.33 per cent double-dosed.
