Inspirational captain Dusty Wyrzykowski has powered Farrer MAHS to a monster win over rivals Hunter Sports High.
The powerhouse backrower, affectionately dubbed ‘The Wiz’ by us at KommunityTV HQ, scored a brilliant double as the home side ran in five tries in the second half to blow Hunter off the park in the 36-6 win.

The battle between Wyrzykowski and opposite backrower Austyn Ah Toon-Hotene down one edge lived up to its billing as a heavyweight contest.
Both players landed blows on each other, with Ah Toon-Hotene setting up Hunter’s lone try midway through the first half, before a vicious right-foot step from Wyrzykowski left the Knights SG Ball backrower clutching air early in the second half.
In the end it would Wyrzykowski who would score the points decision when he powered through a hole to score his second and seal the upset win for the home side.
While the captain is clearly the beating heart of the Farrer side, five-eighth Leif Dietrich is the head.
The playmaker pulled the strings of the Farrer second-half resurgence, setting up four of the five tries including two off his right boot.
Zachary Milsom was also brilliant through the middle of the field, refusing to relent in his battering ram efforts through the teeth of the Hunter Sports High defence.
Farrer were the better side for most of the clash but cruelled themselves in defence in the first half giving up seven penalties for simple ruck infringements.
Hunter Sports High was similarly its own worst enemy with poor discipline with ball in hand costing them on multiple occasions.
The win has blown the race to the finals wide open in Pool C, with Farrer hunting a final round win over Patrician Brothers Fairfield to book their spot in the finals series.
Hunter Sports High could also still make the finals, but will need to secure a result against pool powerhouse Endeavour Sports High in the final round.
PREVIEW
Hunter Sports High started the Peter Mulholland Cup in top gear but are expected to find another one ahead of the side’s Round 2 showdown with Farrer MAHS.
Hunter has been buoyed for the long road trip to Tamworth by the return of several key players who missed their season-opening win.
The clash between Farrer and Hunter Sports High will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV on Thursday, June 12.
Knights juniors Cooper Votano, Billy Toms and Wyatt Katon will all make their return to the field, while star representative fullback Toby Winter remains a 50-50 prospect.
Winter will have scans next week on a suspected fractured thumb.
Hunter Sports High coach Tony Gleeson said there was a level of excitement around the squad that had been missing for several seasons.
He also heaped praise on the squad’s depth and the players who stepped up in Round 1 to help them to victory.
“There were a couple of those fringe guys like Matty Walton who were thrown into the fire at the last minute, they did a really good job,” he said.
“They just went out and did their own job well and that is all we ask of them. I think the main thing we spoke about and what we focus on after that win was why we had the good result.
“Playing simple footy and not going away from that. It was from the hard work and really simple stuff that we built that performance… That is how we have trained this week.”
Votano is expected to partner three-try hero Kyran Blair in the halves for the clash against Farrer MAHS, with the pair’s explosive running game expected to be a focal point of attack.
Farrer will be determined to bounce back in their own right after going down by 36 points at the hands of Endeavour Sports High in the opening round.
The boys from regional NSW came out of their Round 1 contest with little to show for, but a spirited 10 minute period after halftime in which they cracked the Endeavour defences was cause for optimism.
The Tamworth nursery will look to unlock dual-code star Matthew Beattie, who also opens the batting for Farrer’s First XI cricket side, at the back to create more try-scoring opportunities.
