‘Unfair’ parking act sparks fury
Aussies are outraged after footage emerged of a pedestrian doing a parking spot act some busy drivers can’t stand.

An Aussie woman’s “unfair” act has been criticised as she succeeded in saving her friend a car spot by standing in an empty one.
Dashcam footage filmed on the Gold Coast shows a driver approaching a seemingly empty car park, turning around to take the spot and finding a woman “reserving” a nearby spot for a friend by standing in it.
“How’s that even right?” the driver asks. “That’s really unfair- you’re not even a car.”
“We are not moving for you,” the woman says as she continues to stand in the car park.
“You’re going to have to find a new one [park], I’m sorry.”
“Bulls**t,” the driver replies.
“You’re not a car,” he says before driving off saying he was late for class and “couldn’t be bothered arguing further” with her.
He then films a car pulling into the reserved space as the driver of the vehicle and the woman blocking the space walk off together.
The footage caused outrage on social media, with some slamming the driver for “giving in too easily”.
“I would have just [driven] in. She would [have] moved at some point,” a TikTok user commented.
The driver replied saying he did not want to escalate the situation.
“I was late for uni,” he commented.
“I could’ve done a million things but I also don’t want to risk any potential damages since I’m trying to sell my car,”
“Ahh the road rage I’m feeling watching this,” another user commented.
Some commenters disagreed.
“Perfectly OK to reserve a parking spot,” read one comment.
Rules on parking vary across states, but a Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads spokesperson said there is no specific rule that prohibits the reservation of a parking space by standing in it — but a pedestrian must not unreasonably obstruct the path of any driver of another pedestrian.
“Creating an unreasonable obstruction can result in a fine of $154,” the spokesperson said.
