Two men have been arrested after a Melbourne hit-and-run collision on Thursday last night.

Police say the men fled the scene, leaving behind a critically injured teenager in the vehicle.

The two-vehicle collision between a Honda sedan and a Great Wall SUV occurred about 11.30pm on Thursday at St Albans in Melbourne’s northwest.

Police say the sedan crossed over several lanes before crashing into the SUV on Western Ring Rd between Ballarat Rd and Furlong Rd.

A 17-year-old Melton South boy in the rear passenger seat of the sedan sustained critical upper body injuries and was been taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Police arrested a 20-year-old Glenroy man and 20-year-old Sunshine West man early on Friday morning. They have also been taken to the hospital under police guard.

Police say the 20-year-olds were the drive and a front-seat passenger in the sedan and fled the scene on foot, abandoning the 17-year-old in the back seat after the collision.

A man in his 40s, presumed to be an occupant in the Great Wall SUV, was also taken to Sunshine Hospital with an upper body injury but remains in stable condition.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
