A police operation unfolding on a major road has caused peak-hour traffic chaos in one major Australian city.

Peak hour traffic has been brought to a standstill in western Sydney following a self-harm incident on a busy road.
One of three southbound lanes on City Rd in Camperdown at Butlin Ave has been closed as emergency services, including NSW Police, and Transport for NSW attend the scene.
A police spokesperson confirmed the traffic delays were a result of a self-harm incident.
It’s understood police arrived at the scene about 7.30am and remained in the area as of 9am.
Commuters are warned to exercise caution and prepare to merge
