Incident brings peak-hour traffic to a halt on City Rd, Sydney

A police operation unfolding on a major road has caused peak-hour traffic chaos in one major Australian city.

Peak hour traffic has been brought to a standstill in western Sydney following a self-harm incident on a busy road.

One of three southbound lanes on City Rd in Camperdown at Butlin Ave has been closed as emergency services, including NSW Police, and Transport for NSW attend the scene.

A police spokesperson confirmed the traffic delays were a result of a self-harm incident.

It’s understood police arrived at the scene about 7.30am and remained in the area as of 9am.

• 10 times more likely to arrive by police or correctional services vehicles
• twice as likely to be in ED for more than 8 hours
• over represented among those kept waiting in ED for an inpatient bed
• even more over represented among those delayed in leaving ED due to an inpatient bed not being available.
