Homeowner’s ‘entitled’ note about car parked on Adelaide street

A frustrated homeowner’s note about car parked in front of their house may have backfired. Who do you think is in the wrong?

A note written by a frustrated homeowner to the driver of a car parked out the front of their house may have backfired.

A typed up note with a photo of a car parked on a road in South Australia instructs the “non resident” to “find a new location to park your car”.

“You have created problems for my gardener to park his car and trailer today, my cleaner yesterday and my guests to park their cars in front of our gate/home,” the note reads.

“We have several celebrations including a VIP event coming up and prefer your car is not parked opposite our pedestrian gate especially so that the two limousines can park nicely opposite our home.”

The note has now been seen by many more eyes than the author intended after it was shared on popular Instagram account ‘Just Adelaide Things’, which has almost 200,000 followers.

“It would be a real shame if people started parking there over the next few weeks,” the caption read.

One comment with more than 1000 likes in support said: “I have an unused car in my garage that I am willing donate to such a great cause.”

It also kicked off a heated debate about whether homeowners have the right to be annoyed by others parking on their street.

“While I’m not excusing the passive aggressive and entitled tone of this note, we have commuters that regularly park on our street and it does my head in,” wrote one woman. “The fact that they park their car in the middle of the spot, which fits two cars if parked considerately, really sh**s me. Adelaide parking – it’s a thing.”

“Park in front of your own home people !!!! My neighbour constantly parks in front of my house, then I have to park two houses down …” said another frustrated resident.

One woman said encouraging people to now park on the street seemed “unnecessarily spiteful”.

“At least they asked nicely,” she said.

Some people were in disbelief at the note, assuming it couldn’t be real or must be some sort of joke.

But others knew first-hand it was a real problem “entitled” residents felt this way.

“It’s amazing how so many people think the road in front of their house belongs to them,” said one woman.

“This is such a common issue around the place. Homeowners you do not own the street or the parking spaces along that street. You do not own the space in front of your home,” another Aussie agreed.

“I had an old man leave a note on my car window when I parked out the front of his house while I was visiting a friend. I went to get something out of my car and he came outside and started an argument. He and his wife said they were calling the police. People are so delusional,” penned someone else.

A second shared her own shocking experience: “Yeah I get that it’s rule of thumb not to park directly outside people’s houses but these people are ridiculously pretentious. Our neighbours just poured liquid nails all over the paintwork when my partner parked outside their house.”
