A wanted man is on the run after he was found napping at a set of traffic lights in Melbourne.
The man and his passenger were found asleep at the wheel of a black Mercedes on Belgrave-Hallam Rd in Hallam, in Melbourne’s southeast, at 2pm on Monday.
According to 7News, fellow motorists contacted police after spotting the man, who had dozed off for 20 minutes before officers arrived.
Footage obtained exclusively by 7News shows police shouting at the man to exit the vehicle after arriving at the scene.
“Get out of the car now! Get out of the car,” a male officer yells.
Rather than follow instructions, the driver sped off through the intersection.
Police said the man was first woken by paramedics and began to drive off.
“Police demanded the man to stop the vehicle, however he continued to speed away,” police said in a statement to news.com.au.
It’s believed the same car had evaded police earlier that day.
Police said investigations remain ongoing and no arrests have been made.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
