Chilling moment pedestrian hit by out-of-control car on footpath

A man has been charged after allegedly losing control of his car and hitting a pedestrian as she was walking down the footpath.

A man has been charged after a serious pedestrian crash that sent a woman flying over the footpath in Sydney’s inner west.

Chilling footage has emerged of the moment a pedestrian was hit by an out-of-control car in Strathfield.

A 24-year-old woman was making her way down the footpath on Liverpool Rd about 10pm on Tuesday when a car emerged from behind.

In a matter of seconds, the car hit the woman and threw her metres into the air. She landed on the road in front of her.

“I heard the thud first and this really sharp, piercing, spinechilling scream,” a bystander told 7News.

Onlookers rushed to the woman’s side and gave her first aid as she went in and out of consciousness while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

The 24-year-old was rushed to Royal Prince Albert Hospital with serious head and spinal injuries. She remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police are now investigating how the driver, a 30-year-old man, lost control of his car and veered onto the footpath.

The man was uninjured and taken to Concord City Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing, which returned a negative result.

He was later called into Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with negligent driving and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous.

His licence was also suspended.

The man was granted conditional bail and is set to appear before Burwood Local Court on Thursday, December 12.
