An Australian man has received backlash after posting footage on social media of the moment he called a parking inspector a “f**kwit”.
The encounter began when Calum Fentie approached the parking inspector, who was working for the Northern Beaches in Sydney, while he was in the middle of issuing a ticket on Friday. He asked the parking inspector how he was, before inquiring about the vehicle – a ute.
“Mate, what’s going on here?” Fentie asked.
“What do you mean, is this you?” the inspector responded, pointing to the ute.
Fentie continued to pry, “Handing out some tickets are you?”
The no-nonsense inspector replied, “Yeah.”
“Yeah right, what’s the story?” Fentie continued.
The parking inspector explained he would need a permit or to pay to park there.
Fentie then asked the man what inspired him to become a parking inspector.
“It’s a job,” the man bluntly replied.
“Did you just wake up one day and was like, ‘I’m going to become the world’s biggest f**kwit’?” Fentie said.
The parking inspector quickly shut him down by flipping the question.
“What do you do for a living?” was his brilliant response.
Fentie told him it was none of his business and left.
There was an outpouring of fury on social media about the way Fentie treated the parking inspector, with the video removed soon after being shared elsewhere.
One commenter wrote on X, “Poor bloke, that’s a bit rough.”
Another agreed, “Not about this … parking inspectors have the highest rates of abuse out of any workplace. Leave the poor bloke alone, he’s gotta make ends meet some way.”
While a third wrote, “I’d love to be a parking inspector and hand out tickets to f**kwits like this bloke.”
“Oh look, someone is doing a job I don’t like so I’ll belittle him on TikTok for clout,” wrote another.
In another video posted on TikTok, Fentie said he didn’t expect the “hateful” response he’d received to his original post.
He said he’s received many hateful comments which he has found “hilarious” because it was all a joke and it wasn’t his ute.
After ranting about “pro-vaxxers”, he said of the parking inspector, “If he was so worried about getting called a f**kwit, you know what he would have done? He would have not got a job as a parking inspector.
“If I got a job as a parking inspector, I would 100 per cent expect people to come up to me and call me that, but like I said before it was literally all just for a bit of a laugh … I just thought it’d be funny to call him a f***wit because it’s funny, and he is.”
Northern Beaches Council has been contacted for comment.
