Multiple car brands issue urgent safety recalls

Some of the country’s most popular car brands have asked almost 40,000 owners to get their cars repaired as soon as possible.

Thousands of Australian drivers are being asked to bring their cars in for urgent repairs after several popular car brands issued safety recalls.

Mitsubishi is asking owners of 2022 and 2023 Outlander and Outlander plug-in hybrid SUVs to contact their local dealers to repair a faulty rear view camera.

More than 25,000 vehicles are affected according to the recall notice issued by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.

It says a software issue is to blame and it could lead to the rear vision camera’s image being temporarily disrupted when reversing.

If the image doesn’t continually display when reversing it could increase the risk of accident and serious injury or death to any persons located behind the vehicle.

Mitsubishi will alert affected owners by mail and ask them to contact their local dealer for a free repair.

Kia is recalling more than 10,000 Carnival people movers.

On 2020-2023 models the power sliding door might not warn occupants when in operation and according to the recall notice this could result in an increased risk of injury for passengers.

Kia is urging affected owners to contact their local dealership as soon as possible to organise an appointment to repair the issue free of charge.

About 3000 Citroen and Peugeot vehicles have been recalled for a timing belt issue.

It affects 2017-2020 Citroen C3, C3 Aircross and C4 Cactus models and 2017-2020 Peugeot 208, 308 and 2008 vehicles.

The French brands say the timing belt may degrade due to aged engine oil and if left unrepaired it could result in reduction of braking performance.

A reduction or loss of braking performance could increase the risk of injury or death for occupants and other road users.

Again owners should contact their local dealership for urgent free repairs.
