Huge online shopping discounts you need to know before Christmas

Shoppers can save themselves a small fortune by maximising pre-Christmas sales. These are the key dates you can’t miss.

The golden rules for managing a credit card

Eight weeks remain until Christmas and consumers are being urged to make sure they maximise the popular discount shopping days in the lead up to December.

While festive planning has been put off for some due to COVID-19, there’s many key

dates ahead allowing consumers to snap up some great deals.

The first key shopping day on the calendar is Click Frenzy which starts on Tuesday, November 10 at 7pm AEDT.

The popular shopping bonanza will see participating retailers roll out their best discounts and exclusive offers to deliver shoppers significant savings.

Click Frenzy runs for 53 hours through until midnight AEDT Thursday, November 12.

But for shoppers who aren’t organised in time for this first bumper sale there’s plenty more discounts days ahead.

Financial comparison website RateCity’s spokeswoman Sally Tindall warns while there’s often some very enticing deals to be had, they can be “marketing stunts designed to get you spending”.

“These sales have a time limit on them for a reason – they want you to impulse spend,” she says.

“Before you hit ‘purchase’, talk to your partner or a friend about whether it’s a good buy. “Sometimes it can seem like a fantastic idea in your head, but when you say it out loud you quickly realise it’s not.”

However she says for the cautious shopper it could leave them with minimal damage to their hip pocket.

“There’s a chance you could come out the other side with your Christmas shopping ticked off and your budget intact,” Ms Tindall says.

Other popular shopping days this month include Black Friday on November 27 and Cyber Monday on November 30 where many discounts can be found both instore and online.

Ally Hugo, 32, from Menai in Sydney’s south, says she’s about to start her Christmas shopping soon and on her list of things to buy includes clothing and skincare.

“I mainly do my shopping online and make the most of the sales before hitting the shops at the last minute just before Christmas,” she says.

“I spend about $100 per person for most presents and then about $50 to $70 per person for some remaining presents.”

Ms Hugo has budgeted about $1500 for her Christmas presents this year and says she tries not to impulse buy.

“The smarter you shop the better you feel at Christmas,” she says.

Scentre Group – who own Westfield shopping centres – general manager of centre experience Lillian Fadel says Black Friday will deliver customers plenty of savings “across local and international fashion, electronics, Christmas gifts, homewares and more”.

She urges customers to sign up to loyalty programs and alerts to save including their own program, Westfield Plus.

“Customers will receive early access to offers, sales and alerts,” she says.

“The app is free to download and includes many other member benefits.”

Popular online shopping site Catch’s chief marketing officer Ryan Gracie urges shoppers to “get in early”.

“More people are shopping online now than ever before, that means the best products sell fast and delivery could take a little longer than usual so make sure to plan ahead,” he says.

“Sign up to emails for sneak previews and exclusive deals so you can make sure you’re first in and don’t miss out.”
