Woman trolled for being ‘too pretty to be a real doctor’

A female doctor who revealed she’s often dished the “backhanded compliment” of being told she’s too attractive to be a medic has copped criticism.

Hot doctor told she’s ‘too pretty to be a real doctor’

A doctor, who defended herself online against claims she was “too pretty to be a doctor” with a video recounting her accomplishments, has been trolled as a result.

Dr Medina Culver took to her Instagram account to reveal she’s regularly told she’s too attractive to have a medical degree.

But the medical professional – who is in her 30s and lives in the US – copped more criticism for listing her achievements in a bid to inspire other women that there are more important things than looks.

“Pretty women can be more than pretty faces … we can also be badass doctors,” she captioned a video that listed her professional qualities, including being “pretty ambitious”, “pretty hard working” and “pretty determined to achieve my dreams”.

But the video wasn’t well received, receiving a torrent of abuse from people telling Dr Culver to “get over yourself”.

“Lol you’re not that pretty,” one person wrote on Instagram.

“You’re so annoying,” another said.

While one remarked: “I find it odd that someone does a TikTok to tell people how successful and confident they are. Makes me wonder how confident are they really?”

Others defended Dr Culver, describing it as a “backhanded compliment” and agreeing she should be “proud” of her achievements.

“Amen to this,” one user wrote on Instagram.

“Urgh, I swear I get this all the time,” another agreed.

“Boom, tell ’em sis,” someone else added.

In other posts shared by Dr Culver, she has revealed she’s also asked if she’s “old enough” to be a medic and has been criticised for sharing bikini photos online.

A post shared in August defended negative comments she received about her swimwear, writing: “To the women who chose to make negative comments that ‘as a physician I shouldn’t post a photo in my bikini’ please kindly unfollow me.

“This place I’ve created over the last 10 years is nothing but positive and there will be no negative energy allowed.”

In another, she compared a photo of herself in her blue scrubs and white coat beside a photo of her wearing a blue bikini sitting by a pool.

“Remember that article that was posted about women not being professional or able to do their jobs as physicians because they listed photos in a bikini … yeah me neither,” she said.

“Proud to be a female physician more than ever these days!”

Dr Culver also revealed in another video that people had made cruel remarks about her decision not to take her husband’s name, claiming her husband would leave her.

However, her account has amassed a following of almost 27,000 people, many who praise her for speaking out about sexism and double standards.

“I think you’re fab! I’m glad I found you on here! Keep boosting us up,” one woman wrote.

“Can I be like you when I grow up?!” another said.
