‘Welcome back!’: Aussies think they’ve found the perfect Sunnyboy dupe
“I BEG YOUR FINEST PARDON!!!!”
Aussie Gen Z-ers and Millennials are doing a double take, as an ice block reminiscent of a 2000s classic has appeared on shelves.
While it’s not quite the same, Aussies are hopeful it will fill the nostalgic gap left by the disappearance of the original.

Are these what we think they are?
For those of us who went to school in the 2000s, it doesn’t get much more nostalgic than a Sunnyboy.
We all remember going to the canteen on a hot summer day specifically to get a cold, delicious Sunnyboy ice block, only to spend your entire lunch break gnawing at the corners.
Unfortunately, in 2016, The Daily Juice Co announced that we had all consumed our last one.
“Unfortunately, Sunnyboy has experienced a sustained reduction in consumer demand over a long period of time, making it necessary to delete the product from our range of water ice treats,” they shared at the time.
I was always more inclined to spend my pocket money on a juice cup back in the day, but that didn’t make the news any more gutwrenching.
Thankfully, though, Aussies have spotted an alternative in 2025 that’s eerily similar.
“Welcome back Sunnyboys!”
TikTok user @kateelizabethsharp took to the app this week to share her nostalgic find.
“Are Sunnyboys officially back? Because I just spotted this in Woolworths,” she shared.
Katie was talking about Sun Lolly - a Danish company which has been selling ‘ice lollies’ for almost 50 years.
The brand’s goods are available in 15 different countries across the world - one being Australia.
Commenters on Katie’s post assured that these guys aren’t new to Aussie stores at all, but have just recently picked up steam due to the comparisons to Sunnyboy.
“I’ve been told that Sunnyboys used to be super popular in Australian schools. Today, I found these - it’s called Sun Lolly, and I heard it’s a modern version of Sunnyboy,” said TikTok user @firsttimeaussie in a video last month.
“Welcome back Sunnyboys!” wrote @_santachickens, who also posted a video about them earlier this year.
But, of course, all shoppers are interested in is, are they really anything like a Sunnyboy?
“I BEG YOUR FINEST PARDON!!!! Pls try and report back,” one commenter asked.
“This is the most influenced I have ever been since discovering the World Wide Web. Thank you for your service,” said another.
But… are they the same??
I’m sorry to break it to you, but the answer is - no, not really.
The consensus online is that while they do look a lot like Sunnyboy, they’re not quite the same in terms of flavour. They’re also a lot smaller than the original Sunnyboy.
However, that doesn’t mean they’re not great in their own right, so if you find yourself in need of some new ice blocks to try this summer, you might want to give these ones a go.
