‘Walled in’: Woman finds cat stuck inside wall after reno

A woman came home from a business trip to discover the sound of meowing coming from her new bathroom wall after a new plaster job.

Tradies seal cat into wall

A woman has divided the internet after sharing how her cat got stuck inside her new bathroom wall while she was on a three-day business trip.

Ashlin Hadden shared a video on TikTok saying she had locked her cat in a separate room so that tradies could renovate her bathroom while she was away.

But when she got home, she heard meowing coming from a new plasterboard wall the workers had installed.

@ashlinhadden Yes they knew there was a cat. Yes I locked the bedroom door and bathroom door. The contractor left a hole over night and the door open. No I didn’t have a cat sitter and I am a horrible person for not hiring one! 😵‍💫 #viralvideo#catsoftiktok♬ original sound - Ashlin Hadden

“So I hired somebody to redo the bathroom,” Ms Hadden shared in the video..

“They pulled out the bathtub and put in the new shower thing. And as I’m sitting here trying to figure out where my cat is, I can hear the cat crying from somewhere in here.”

She then showed a hole she had made at the base of the wall to let her cat out.

“The stupid-a** contractor (sealed) my cat into the drywall … This poor kitty was locked in there for three days stuck underneath the drywall,” she said.

But the story has divided people online. While some agree that the contractor was at fault, many others pointed out that, as the owner of cat, it was her responsibility to keep it away from construction.

“If a man was working in a man hole and left the lid off over night and someone fell in, who’s at fault? Should he not take responsibility?” Ms Hadden said in the comments.

“I don’t understand why everyone is saying this is your fault,” agreed another. “It’s basic common sense to maybe make sure the cat that was around didn’t get sealed up.”

“Was he paid to cat sit as well?” said another.

“Curiosity killed the cat, not the contractor,” wrote someone else.

“Everyone agrees it’s your fault. Not the contractor,” one said.

In fact, there were so many questions and negative comments that Ms Hadden shared a follow-up video to further explain herself.

While she did take responsibility for the situation, she also explained that she had been told it would be a one-day job and she had locked her cat in her bedroom to keep it away from the contractor.
