How would you describe your personal style?
I’m a real tomboy at heart so I lean towards pieces that are comfortable, but also stand out. I used to wear stilettos a lot for performances but now prefer sneakers and boots.
Who are your style icons?
Rina Sawayama, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus.
What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe?
I have some dresses from the ’60s that I bought from a vintage store in Melbourne. I love finding vintage items because they’re unique and it’s better for the environment.
What are your favourite brands?
I love Australian brands that make beautiful effortless designs like Aje and Kitx.
Have you ever made a style faux pas?
Lots of times! Some of the looks from the X Factor days were questionable. It was an experimental stage but I don’t think the lizard wings with a tight, white, leather dress with black panda eyeshadow was a good look for me …
What’s the most you’ve spent on an outfit?
When I went to America for a performance I spent a couple of thousand dollars on a pair of Valentino heels thinking I would wear them all the time. Sadly, I ended up barely touching them because they didn’t go with any of my outfits!
Top three wardrobe must-haves?
A casual chic boxy T-shirt, white sneakers, denim jeans or a denim dress.
Most surprising thing in your wardrobe?
I have a pair of clear PVC boots that I think look awesome but are very hard to wear especially in the Brisbane heat …
Most sentimental item in your wardrobe?
My Eurovision dress, which is currently on loan being displayed at the Australian Music Vault in Melbourne, as it symbolises an incredible turning point in my career.
What would you buy if money was no object?
I don’t think having more money would change the way I purchase clothing because I’ve always been quite practical. Part of being a performer and a recording artist means I need to create a visual reference to the sound the audience hear, but I don’t spend more than I feel is necessary.
Summer or winter fashion?
I prefer summer over winter any day but Brisbane winter is definitely better for fashion and layering!
Denim or dresses?
Definitely denim. I also love a denim dress.
Is there anything from your wardrobe you’ve regretted throwing out?
I once gave away a pair of skinny leather pants because one part of the stitching was coming undone. They were a great fit and material and could have easily been fixed.
How many pairs of shoes do you own?
About 40 pairs. I’m due for a clean out!
