There are few things more exciting than finally arriving at the airport before your overseas holiday.

But after checking-in, passing security and customs, you’ve got another 2.5 hours until your flight starts boarding.

Instead of aimlessly walking through the terminal or waiting at the gate, the next best option is access to an airport lounge — where the food and drink is good and plentiful.

We’ve found three luxe lounges at Melbourne Airport that you can enjoy a glass of champagne, have a shower and meal before your flight.

And the best part? You don’t need to be a frequent flyer or be sitting in the pointy-end of the plane.

THE HOUSE

T2, International Departures, Airside near gate 10.

6.30am-10pm, daily.

COST: $80 per adult (online) $90, $40 per child for three hours.

You don’t need any fancy airline membership or be flying at the pointy-end of the plane to get access to The House. There’s waiter service, an al la carte dining menu, wine list, barista-made coffee, showers, unlimited wi-fi and copious newspapers and glossy mags to flick through at your leisure.

PLAZA PREMIUM LOUNGE

T2, International Departures, Airside near gate 9.

6am-11pm, daily.

COST: $65 per adult for two hours, and $75 for five hours.
