The Beauty Diary: $37 Bunnings item every beauty addict needs

Installing storage in your bathroom as a renter is very difficult – but a “game-changing” Bunnings product could be the answer.

Beauty Diary: How to blow dry your hair at home

Does anyone else use the turn of the year to get their sh*t together?

I most definitely do – and it usually involves finally getting around to jobs around the house I’ve been putting off for months, because after all, there’s nothing like starting fresh in the New Year.

Now if you’re wondering how on earth the admission of my horrendously late “spring clean” is beauty-related – let me explain.

Any true lover of skincare and make-up will know having a hefty stash of products usually equals a messy and cluttered space.

While I managed to sort my vanity area pretty easily thanks to the addition of some awesome acrylic drawer dividers, solving my storage issue in my bathroom hasn’t been as easy.

My shower floor has been littered with shampoo and conditioner bottles, along with countless scrubs, masks and creams for months and I was desperate to do something about it.

The obvious answer to my problem was installing some sort of shelving, but as someone living in a rental apartment, most options were out of the question as they involved drilling.

I’d tried caddies that hooked over the shower head, but the budget item was rickety and always ended up rusty.

So my bottles lined the edges of my shower where the bottoms became gunky from stewing in stagnant shower water – totally gross and highly unpleasant.

However, a scroll through a Bunnings Facebook group one night uncovered a solution to my nightmare – and after putting it to the test, I’m happy to report it’s the answer I had been searching high and low for.

It was a total mess but I couldn’t install most shower caddies in a rental apartment. Picture: Supplied/news.com.au

The product I stumbled across was made by a brand called Fusion-Loc which specialises in suction bathroom accessories that don’t rust.

In all honestly, the items – which include caddies, shelves, rails and hooks – sounded too good to be true. Surely once I’d loaded them up with the ridiculous amount of bottles I had in my possession, the suction would buckle under the pressure?

I’d tried what I thought were similar options from Kmart and similar stores in the past that constantly lost grip from the walls when wet and heavy.

But I stumbled across a Facebook post raving about ‘Fusion-Loc’ products. Picture: Supplied/news.com.au

But the glowing reviews online were enough to persuade me to give Fusion-Loc a go – I mean, one woman on Instagram called herself a “Fusion-Loc-oholic”. If that’s not convincing, I don’t know what is.

Thank goodness I listened, as the $37 stainless steel corner caddie has completely changed my entire shower experience. Call me dramatic, but it’s true.

Installing the caddies (I bought three) was super easy. You simply pressed the cap against a clean, dry tile, and then pumped it with air using a special blue hand pump you receive with the product.

Then you attach the hook to the cap, and then slide the caddie into place. Just look at the before and after photos of my shower to see the difference it has made.

To remove the caps, you have to release the air pressure using the same valve where we pumped air in – and it falls away from the wall without leaving a mark.

They are also super sturdy, holding up to 16kg in one caddie. Not even my super stash of shampoo is that heavy.

I’ve been so impressed by the product, I bought two more and installed them in my kitchen to hold my herb and spice jars. They attached perfectly to my mirror splashback and haven’t come away once, despite the fact I’ve loaded it up with bottles of oil and sauce.

So if your shower is looking as feral as mine was, but you’re feeling hopeless in regards to finding a solution – this is it. The product really is a game-changer.
