This is what happens when you leave your washing out to dry at night - and it's a big fat "no" from many of us.

Terri Irwin's horrifying find inside washing is the stuff of nightmares

Many of us leave the washing outside to dry overnight and it's usually a harmless and uneventful task getting them off the line the following day.

But if you're Terri Irwin, living in outback Queensland, you're not always guaranteed only dry washing.

The Australia Zoo matriarch took to Instagram to share a little video of what she found in her washing when she left her clothes on the line during a storm.

Brace yourselves, it's worse than a snake!

Terri's "big mistake"

Sharing a video of her find with her son-in-law Chandler Powell, Terri wrote: "Outback Queensland. An unexpected storm came through, so I left the clothes on the line overnight."

The video then shows the two revealing the inside of a pair of shorts and fluttering around in there was a colony of giant moths.

Looking for a safe place to hide when the weather turned?  Probably. Planning their attack on all existence by scaring the bejeezus out of us first? Highly likely.

Either way, Terri reveals leaving her washing out was a "big mistake" and the video shared has given us all the creepy crawlies.

It's the stuff of nightmares

Aussie comedian Rove McManus was one of the first to comment with "What the WHAT??? 😮"

"Imagine going to put these on and then immediately feeling like you’re going through a biblical plague," another added.

Another horrified person shared: "Not to be dramatic or anything but I WOULD PASS OUT."

And another said they wouldn't even bother trying to get them off: "They can have the shorts... it's theirs now."

Of course, there were a few moth lovers among Terri's followers.

"They had refuge through the night thanks to the shorts being left out :))," one person said.

And another agreed: "It wasn’t a big mistake for those sweet little butterflies/moths! They found a safe place to hide from the strong winds! They’re totally thanking you!!!! 🦋"

Let this be your reminder to get your washing off the line before dark.
