Tayla and Nathan Broad showcase Myer winter fashion

As Aussies sink into deep winter, a top fashion stylist has shared some tricks on how to transform a tired seasonal wardrobe — without breaking the bank.

Now the cold snap has well and truly set in, so too has the realisation that some must-have essentials are missing from the winter wardrobe.

Using a few simple tricks this season, and shopping with intention, can make a tired closet go from slob to chic without breaking the bank.

Building on closet staples – from boots, heavy coats, tights and knit dresses – is the best way to not only save this season, but make it possible to look warm and stylish all at once.

Stylist Paula Joye knows all the secrets and wardrobe hacks, having a long-term relationship working with department store giant Myer. She says classic tonal layering is this season’s biggest trend that we can easily emulate from inside our own wardrobe.

“Have a look in your wardrobe and see what sort of colours you have the most of overall,” Joye says.

“We are all drawn to either some form of neutral, be it navy, camel, grey, or black and put them all out on the bed. You will find you might have something missing – from a scarf, to a three quarter length coat, or inadequate pants – then when you are out shopping you are looking for things that will pull it together. You are shopping with intention.”

Model, social campaigner and new mum Tayla Broad said her best style hack in keeping chic in the chill is all about the trench, or wool coat.

Pictured with her husband, Richmond premiership player Nathan Broad, in a variety of looks from Myer’s winter season top picks, she said her best tip was a Forever New wool coat, which she throws over her gym gear to immediately elevate the look to give off polish.

“Nothing pulls you together quite like a three quarter coat or a blazer,” Broad said.

“They’re definitely investment pieces but worth it, and then paired with your basics.”
