‘Surprise’ extra episode spawns wild theories about Bluey’s future kids

The latest episode is full of the usual hilarious games and tear-jerker moments, but it’s the shocking ending that has fans sure they know who adult Bluey grows up and marries.

Just when we thought the season, (or EEK, the series!) was all over, the good folks at Ludo Studio and ABC dropped a surprise episode of Bluey, aptly called “Surprise”.

The show is back to its old seven-minute short format, but the writers packed it with tear-jerker moments and big surprises.

And because sometimes delaying gratification sucks, we’ll start with the biggest surprise of all: the episode ends with Bluey visiting her mum and dad as an adult, bringing along a mini-me with familiar colouring.

The old Queenslander house looks similar except for some technological upgrades, including a robot-vacuum deftly making its way around the floor and having a hard time docking itself; Chilli looks like her usual self, except for a large pair of glasses.

But then the doorbell rings, and she opens the door to a familiar-looking Blue Heeler standing on the front porch.

“Bluey!” she cries.

Then it hits you. Chilli is wearing glasses because she’s older, and that familiar dog is Bluey all grown up.

“Just thought I’d pop by,” grown-up Bluey says, hugging her mum. Chill calls out for Bandit to come down.

“The house is looking good,” Bluey says.

“Thanks! Can you believe your father almost sold it?”

“Aw c’mon,” Bandit says, overhearing the jibe.

The women go off to the kitchen for a visit. The doorbell rings again and Bandit opens the door.

No one is there. Bandit is confused. Then he hears the familiar sound of a tennis ball gun firing up. Hiding behind the door is Bluey’s child, getting ready to ambush grandpa, just like Bluey used to do.

Fan theories about Bluey's baby

The episode ends, inspiring all kinds of important questions like, does Bingo still live at home? What does Bluey do for work? What’s her child’s name?

But the most important question of all has already spawned thousands of comments and theories in the few hours since the episode dropped on Sunday morning.

“STOP IS THAT BLUEY AND MACKENZIE’S KID,” one person asked on a TikTok by Bluey fan account, @radflough. The viral video has had 1.5 million views.

Mackenzie is a Border Collie who moved to Brisbane from New Zealand and he and Bluey are besties at school. Like all friendships, things can sometimes get fraught, like when the pups are playing “Shops” and Bluey keeps changing the rules. Mackenzie gets fed up and quits.

Of course it doesn’t last. Bluey apologises and the dogs agree to listen to each other. Which by the way is the foundation of a good marriage, hint, hint.

“Mackenzie and Bluey, unfriends to lovers,” wrote another person.

But not everyone thought Bandit and Chilli’s grandchild looked part Border Collie.

“It’s possible it could either be Mackenzie or even Jean-Luc’s kid,” one person theorised, referring to the Quebecois Labrador Bluey befriended on a camping trip.

“The one folded ear does remind me of Mackenzie, but the kid also has dark blue colouring like Jean-Luc.”
