SHE’S a model and business mogul but Lara Worthington doesn’t feel pressure to keep up with unattainable beauty standards.
The mother-of-three has opened up about fitness, fashion and her marriage to Hollywood star Sam Worthington in a new interview with Body+Soul.

The New York-based couple share sons Rocket, 7, Racer, almost 6, and River, 2.

“I have to remind myself that it’s OK that your body is changing, especially after the first [pregnancy],” Worthington said.

“It was really enjoyable for me, especially the first one, because I didn’t know what was ahead of me.”

The 35-year-old – who is an ambassador for Australian fitness apparel brand 2XU – addressed the pressure new mothers face in terms of body image after pregnancy.
“I hate that term ‘getting your body back’, because I think it’s a nice journey to go on,” Worthington told Body+Soul.

“Women’s bodies do incredible things, and I don’t think it should ever be looked at in a negative way … We’re giving life! My girlfriends always talk about being easy on yourself, because even after I’ve had all these kids, it’s important to not be so hard on yourself, because being a mum is the hardest job in the world.”

She keeps fit via pilates and ballet at home in New York City. “And I think that’s why I feel better now in my body versus when I was younger,” she said.

Worthington said she and her husband Sam tried to find “balance” between family life and career.

“I was always trying, and am still trying, to find that balance with one, and then two, and then three [kids], and then balancing everything else,” Worthington said.

“I think that’s the long-term challenge.”

She asserts that the parents still set the agenda in the Worthington household.
“We still very much have our life, and the kids kind of come with us,” Worthington said.
“I still really love having my own identity and so does my husband, so it definitely is a challenge, but a good challenge.”

Worthington said she was embracing the ageing process – and didn’t feel pressure to keep up with appearances.

“I always say to my husband, ‘You’re just getting more handsome.’ You know, it’s nice to be able to grow old together and not be worried about [appearances].”
