Over a decade after Friends ended, how many times a day does someone shout Joey’s catch phrase at you? How you doin’ …
It depends. But everyone who does, thinks they’re the first.
Friends is enjoying a renaissance among viewers who weren’t born when it debuted. Why?
Friends stands the test of time because we never dealt with topical issues. We dealt with themes that run across generations — such as love, betrayal, family.
Now you host Top Gear. Was changing a tyre part of the audition?
I didn’t really audition. I was a guest on the show and they just kept asking me back, then asked me to host. So here I am. And it’s an honour.
What advice are you planning to give your nearly-teenage daughter about boys and cars?
Well, she’ll start dating when she’s 45, and then she’ll be old enough to make her own decisions. Hopefully, good ones.
Will you just be a shotgun/rocking chair sort of dad?
Yeah you can take that route … once, probably — then you’re going to be a shotgun/rocking chair sort of dad behind bars! So I’ll stick to the former.
Top Gear airs next month on Foxtel’s BBC Knowledge.
