A positive attitude can make all the difference when applying for a job.
If you are smiling when you walk into an interview, an employer will think “they are happy” and it will make them feel happy.
Positivity works because it’s about how you make other people feel.
If your personality is enjoyable, someone is more likely to hire you.
If you are angry and bitter and always frowning, why would someone want to be around you?
Would you want to be around someone miserable all the time?
It’s important to understand that how you show yourself is how an employer will see you.
You can’t go in and show “I am good at what I do but I am a miserable sod and will make your life hell by complaining all the time” then expect to get the job.
But if you are enjoying life and have a positive attitude, people will enjoy that very much.
You can show you are a positive person through the language you use.
How do you describe yourself in your cover letter or CV?
You might use colour in your cover letter or CV.
It’s about how you speak on the phone.
It’s about the language you use in the job interview.
Instead of saying “I don’t know”, “I’m worried”, say “I can”, “I will” and “I’d love to”.
Don’t speak negatively about other people.
Bagging out past employers or colleagues is unprofessional and short sighted.
If someone puts down their past employer, whether right or wrong, its shows they don’t understand confidentiality or how small this world is.
The interviewer may know that person.
The rule is: keep your mouth shut because you never know who is listening and who knows who.
You can also show your positive personality through your social media, as an employer will almost certainly check this during the hiring process.
Social media is a great reflection of your attitude towards life.
In general, make sure you are sending off a nice, positive feel.
Being positive does not mean you are not practical or pragmatic, though.
Just in general, a good idea is to be the type of person you want to be around.
