Not even Hollywood stars are immune from the daily grind of kids’ colds and playground dates, argues Edwina Bartholomew.

They really are all just like us. Well, maybe not all of them – I’m looking at you, Kanye West. But at least one celebrity couple are proving to be as down to earth as they really seem.
Ryan Gosling is currently in Australia filming his new movie, The Fall Guy. Along for the ride are wife Eva Mendes and children, Esmeralda, 8, and Amada, 6.
And guess what? They are all currently watching Bluey and they all have a cold. Welcome to my life.
Eva told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph this week that they try to take the children with them wherever they are in the globe, and that means for the next few months, Australia is home.
They start each day with a Welcome to Country and have been exploring local parks and learning about the local wildlife.
“We travel a lot and one of my strong beliefs is that you try to always keep a family together, no matter what you’re doing. Especially when the children are small,” Mendes said this week.
But that does not extend to home schooling. She revealed it’s just not one of her strengths, so she isn’t the one sitting down with the school books. Thank you for your honesty. How many parents had to pretend to excel at schooling during Covid, only to gleefully drop their kids back at the school gate when the term resumed?
The actor has actually starred in Bluey, with a one-liner as a yoga teacher, so it makes sense her kids have become to addicted to the show while Down Under.
They apparently have even picked up little Aussie twangs, which is a welcome change from our kids absorbing the accents from Disney and Sesame Street.
Photos show the mum of two at the park in Sydney’s eastern suburbs with her girls, which makes her even more like you and me. Well, like you anyway.
Confession here for you: I just don’t like the park. I can do 10 minutes on the swings and slide but ask me to stay any longer and I’ll make an excuse to get to the car.
The only exception I’ll make is if Ryan Gosling turns up at my local. Then we can chat The Notebook, parenting, Bluey, Barbie, whatever he wants really.
Now that would really spin my merry-go-round.
