It’s billed as the sales event of the year.
Cyber weekend is here and these are some of the best deals to save you cash from Black Friday to Cyber Monday.
HEALTH AND FITNESS
For many of us, Black Friday couldn’t have come at a better time. After spending weeks (or months, depending on where you live) indoors, at home and not exactly feeling, looking or eating our best, most of us are itching to reset our focus on health and wellbeing and venture back into the great outdoors – but not in the way we once knew it.
“COVID has certainly taught all of us that the way we have traditionally done things doesn’t necessarily need to apply going forward,” say Keep it Cleaner (KIC) creators Steph Claire Smith and Laura Henshaw.
“What this has meant for the fitness industry is that the one-size-fits-all approach of pre-COVID times won’t necessarily cut it as we head into 2021,” say Smith, 25, and Henshaw, 27.
Their KIC app has been praised by users for keeping them active and eating healthy food during one of the toughest times of their lives.
The app’s Melbourne-based creators say an unexpected upshot of the pandemic has been people’s new-found love of flexible fitness and working out, and saying goodbye to rigid routines.
“People now know they have the power to be in charge of their workouts, in whatever style they want, wherever they are and whenever they are free,” the pair say. Among the most popular workouts on the KIC app are the HIIT series and a collection of toning tutorials targeted to specific areas.
Perhaps the best thing about the classes, though, is how fast, fun and motivating they are. Instead of having to drive to a gym and arrive 10 minutes early for a 45-minute class, before driving home again, you can set up in your lounge room and be ready to go within minutes.
“People want fresh, inspiring workouts across a variety of exercises … to enjoy in the comfort of their own homes, on their own terms,” Henshaw and Smith say.
This shift is something the women expect will continue, with the pair predicting the new year “will further cement what our Keep it Cleaner community already
knows – that the physical transformation is only the by-product of the fitness journey”.
“It’s how moving your body makes you feel, rather than how you look,” they say.
The trend is one that has been noticed nationwide and doesn’t show any sign of slowing down.
Months after retailers sold out of home workout gear nationwide, Kogan reports the interest is just as strong as ever.
“We have seen a huge uplift across several categories,” says Sergiy Bobrovnychyy, Kogan’s director of exclusive brands.
So whether you’re exercising on a balcony, in the back yard, at the nearest park, or even in your lounge room at home, generous Black Friday discounts from major retailers are making it all that much easier for those of us ready to get back out there.

HOMEWARE AND FURNITURE DEALS
Property stylist and interior design specialist Deb Lindner, the Mink Home founder and director, says it is the perfect opportunity to think about creating the living space you want.
“Beautiful interiors instantly inspire us and definitely lift our mood, so by surrounding ourselves with lovely furniture, artwork and homewares we can easily transform our daily lives.
“We often talk about upgrading our home but don’t always get around to it. Black Friday is the ideal opportunity to make it happen and enjoy the result. Imagine the difference waking up to a fresh, inspiring space every day makes to your mood and outlook for the day.”
Lindner says the first thing to do is prioritise.
“Before spending, think carefully about what will make the biggest impact on your everyday life at home.
“Secondly, set a budget. Decide how much you can afford to spend and stick to it. And thirdly, don’t forget to measure your spaces carefully before purchasing.”

TRAVEL
Simply being able to holiday again is precious enough after a year of interrupted travel. But what if your next trip was also a super-saver?
Despite a tourism industry in recovery mode, there are savings like never before – you just have to know where to find them.
Rod Carrington, head of product for the Ignite Travel Group which includes My Holiday Centre, says they are offering deals unlike any they’ve ever had: “We have week-long packages for under $600 to places like Cairns and Port Douglas. I have never seen that before.”
HOW TO GET A GOOD DEAL
●Knowing when to book is all important. For flights, booking on a Sunday can save you up to 25 per cent over booking on a Friday, according to Expedia’s 2021 Travel Trends Report. And which day you start your trip also counts, with it being up to 20 per cent cheaper to fly out on Thursday than Sunday.
● Go for a package over a room-only rate, says Rebecca Maitland of TripADeal.com.au, as you can get value-added inclusions like room upgrades, breakfast and parking for less.
● Consider what it is you value, there’s no point getting a free inclusion you don’t want or need. “For some it will be a room upgrade to a bigger room or with a better view that will create a nicer experience,” Maitland says.
It’s important to do your research, looking at live prices on hotel websites for instance, so you don’t get tricked into a “deal” that is based on an inflated rate.
● If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that flexibility is key. Carrington says these days finding a package with a free change and cancellation policy can be as good as money in your pocket.
● Travelling outside of peak times will often deliver a better price than peak season. But that doesn’t mean peak-time deals aren’t available.
“They will take a little more digging to find, but cities with high stock like Sydney or the Gold Coast will more likely deliver a deal during peak than a smaller regional centre,” Carrington says.
● If you are having a staycation in your city, try to be flexible with your booking and try to travel midweek. Staying in a hotel or resort during the week will save you up to 15 per cent versus a Saturday night, according to Expedia.
● Book early, says Maitland. “If you see it, grab it. Deals will often have limited stock allocation.”
● Cruise lines are putting forward their best prices ever to try to stimulate their industry, Carrington says.
“There are great domestic cruise deals for travel within the next three to four months and great deals for international travel well into 2022,” he says.
