Shoppers cracking up over bizarre supermarket sale item

“At this point it's just a deck of NO,” said one commenter on social media. But, would you buy it for this price?

When you’re shopping at Coles, it doesn’t get much better than a good quick sale.

A good find at an even better price just can’t be beat!

But, in the gold mine of quick sale items there are a few duds, with one Aussie taking to Reddit to share their disappointing find.

“At what point do you accept the loss and just toss it?

An Aussie Coles shopper has taken to Reddit after spotting a quick sale item that probably should have just been taken off the shelves.

The item at hand is a deck of UNO cards. But the kicker? Half the deck seems to be missing.

“At what point do you accept the loss in profits and just toss it?” the poster said.

“Nearly 3/4 of the deck was missing, would anyone seriously buy this? But as we know by now, there’s always a profit to be made in a cost of living crisis.”

Luckily, it’s been bumped down from $11 to just $3.30 - I certainly wouldn’t be paying any more than that.

“It’s just a deck of NO”

Many commenters on the post thought it was hilarious, cracking jokes about the abysmal buy.

“At this point it's just a deck of NO,” one joked.

“Play the reverse card at the checkout and they have to give you $3.30,” said another.

“I mean....are you really going to toss out a half pack of perfectly good Uno when there's an Uno shortage? Apparently we've got mister moneybags over here,” a third person said.

“My local Kmart and Reject Shop are terrible for this”

Others said this isn’t the first time they’ve seen something similar happen, with all kinds of stores making dud items a sale purchase.

“My local Kmart and Reject Shop are terrible for this, and the discounts aren’t even good. 5 Litre bucket of fairy floss that clearly got air or water in it, because the fairy floss is now a 5c piece of hard moist candy? $1.70 down from $2.50. Handheld mirror with the mirror cracked and most pieces have fallen out of the shit frame? $5 down from $7. 3 piece of paint your own terracotta pots, but all the pots have shattered? $3 down from $4.50,” one person commented.

“I once saw Myer selling a diary that was 18 months out of date for ~50% off....” said another.

“At my local Coles there was a scrunched up and taped up packet of chips that was there for over a week, reduced something like $2.85 which is more expensive than the same unfucked chips when they're on their fortnightly special. Today it was just gone. I wonder what happened. Did someone buy it? Did management admit defeat? Were they stolen? Did the recipient find them worthy? I wonder,” said a third person.

But, some were more critical of the move, wondering how something like this got across the line - assuming that half the deck were gone when the price was reduced.

According to Coles, this incident is not in accordance with their usual standards.

“While we can't check the specifics of this reddit post without knowing where this occurred, this appears to be an isolated incident due to human error at an individual store," a Coles spokesperson told Kidspot.

"Any product that is missing in part, should be removed from sale immediately and we encourage our customers to let us know if they spot anything in store that isn’t quite right.”
