Interior designer and TV personality Shaynna Blaze says a lot of people will be shocked by her latest career move but it’s always been something close to her heart.
Blaze, 61, is this week releasing her debut single called Warrior after a lifelong love of music.
“I think people will be surprised but it’s a part of me that’s always been there, the public just doesn’t know about it,’’ Blaze said.
“I’ve dabbled in music for a long time and this is one project I’ve always wanted to do. I’d love to write more and collaborate with more artists. I don’t think I want to travel performing as a tour but who knows I might end up in a musical.”
Blaze, best known for her roles on the The Block, Selling Houses Australia, The Masked Singer and for winning Celebrity Apprentice in 2021, was inspired further after working with producer Gary Pinto for her movie The Fort.
During Covid she spent much time writing songs.
“I’ve really taken it seriously,’’ she said.
“My performing background has helped me with my TV work and they compliment each other.
“Warrior was born out of my need to brace and protect myself against forces outside my control. Instead of shying away, I wanted to embrace my rage, use it as a strength, and not to be ruled by weakness.”
Blaze sought out famous speeches that resonated with her, and the words of Julia Gillard, Grace Tame and Brittany Higgins, feature on the track.
“I wasn’t expecting that power and impact of what the song is,’’ Blaze said.
“This track means so much to me.
“The main beat feels like a march, and the choir elevates us to rise and metaphorically move forward, reminding us we aren’t stuck or alone.”
