Bride's 'next-level' wedding dress code demand sparks debate

The request is one thing... but wait until you hear her justification for it. 😂

Bride's 'next-level' wedding dress code demand sparks debate

A bride-to-be who shares wedding planning content on Instagram has divided opinion over a 'next-level' request for her guests

In Betti Adams' clip, her fiancé painstakingly paints four coloured circles under the 'attire' section of their invitations.

The colours are a pastel pink, and earthy beige, dark brown and black.

The video's caption read: "POV: not one single printer could print your wedding colours accurately enough, so your fiancé painted all the colours on every single invite."

"We kindly ask that you dress within our colour palette for our special day"

The four colours were apparently the shades that guests were allowed to wear, with the bride also requesting that everyone make sure their outfits adhere to a 'formal' or 'cocktail' dress code.

The invitation went on: "Ladies: midi or floor-length dresses. Gentlemen: Dress pants, button-down shirt with a tie or bowtie. Sports coat optional."

"No denim, flip flops, sneakers, red, or creams, whites or champagnes. We kindly ask that you dress within our colour palette for our special day."

"Controlling" and "rude"

The video has since racked up nearly nine million views, with thousands of commenters quickly pointing out that having this level of control over guests was unrealistic.

"If you can’t bear the margin of error at the printer, how are you going to react when someone’s dress is a close but not exact match?" one viewer asked in a comment that received over 95k likes.

"Why do you want to control what your guests wear? The wedding party is normal, but the guests? Pretty controlling. Go see a therapist about your issues," another said, not mincing their words.

Others pointed out that it was unfair to expect guests to fork out and buy brand new outfits so they could keep with a colour theme.

"Expecting people to spend money on new outfits for your wedding colour scheme is rude," a woman claimed.

"So not only are sad beige mums a huge thing now, but sad beige weddings?" another pointed out.

"These are my calm colours"

Betti replied to some of the comments, justifying her strict wedding rules.

"It’s called a dress code that 98% of weddings have. Calm down… I didn’t tell anyone to purchase anything," she wrote. "You can call me sad and beige all you want, honey. These are my calm colours, and I want my wedding to be calm."

She even went as far as saying that her guests would be thankful for the guidelines.

"I'm hoping most people would find it helpful," she said.

Hmm... we're not so sure. Good luck to 'ya though, Betti!
