Sad scenes emerge at Bunnings as cult favourite returns

"Should’ve woken up at 6am!"

Bluey fans couldn’t have been more excited earlier this week, when it was announced that the iconic collaboration between Bluey and Bunnings (I mean, Hammerbarn) would be returning to shelves.

But, it seems the return was short lived, with sad scenes at the retailer just 24 hours after the collection went on sale.

Let’s go to Hammerbarn!

Earlier this week, Bunnings announced that just a year after their initial launch, the beloved Bluey gnomes would be returning to stores.

The collection would include fan favourites Hecuba, Tony, Jeremy and the Meditation Gnome, as well as Gerald and the Bride and Groom Gnomes - each retailing for just $19.

But, it would also come along with a wide range of homewares and accessories, including watermelon and kiwi rigs, decorative paper lanterns, and some fun Hammerbarn-branded merch like socks and hats.

“My local had most stock gone within two hours”

The full collection went on sale from yesterday, Wednesday 30th July, and remembering the wild scenes last year, many fans went to their local stores as early as 6am.

And, it looks like that’s the only way you could have gotten one.

A number of desperate shoppers took to Facebook sharing their struggles getting their hands on anything from the collection.

“I ended up going at 6am and almost half the gnomes were gone so go asap!” one Facebook user shared.

“Me too, half gone by 6:10am. There were only about 50 gnomes in total at my local store,” another agreed.

“Should’ve woken up at 6am. My local had most stock gone within two hours,” said a third.

Better luck next year?

Across the country, it seems the shelves have been stripped bare of any remnants of the collection.

This morning, just over 24 hours after it went on sale, we saw two Sydney stores left with nothing more than a few hats and rugs, with all of the gnomes sold out, and signage removed.

And, the team at Bunnings couldn't be more excited about the release's success.

“It’s wonderful to see how popular the Bluey gnomes have been at stores across the country. We are seeing so much excitement in-stores from Bluey fans of all ages, and our social community is also getting behind these fun, limited-edition characters. We love being part of something that brings a bit of joy and nostalgia to Aussie gardens,” a spokesperson told Kidspot.

So all we can hope is that they bring the gnomes back again in 2026 (with some extra stock, please!).
