"Give him 1 star!"

Ordering food using a third party delivery service like UberEats, Menulog or DoorDash is always a little bit of a gamble.

Sure, the restaurant or takeaway place might only be around the corner, but for all you know, the driver could have 4 stops on the way, or might be heading over on their bike.

But, one Reddit has taken to the platform with a new dilemma after a restaurant employee exposed their driver for an unusual act - and it’s started all kinds of discourse.

“Give him 1 star”

A Reddit user has taken to the Mildly Infuriating subreddit to share a note given to him in his UberEats order.

In the now-deleted post captioned, ‘Third party food delivery services are not a good idea’, the Redditor exposed the note - and his Uber driver.

“Hi, your UberEats driver ate lunch in our store when your order was already ready to go,” the note said.

“I’ve remade it fresh. Give him 1 star.”

“Thanks for having my back, random restaurant staff!”

Unsurprisingly, commenters on the post were not happy with the driver in this situation.

“I get that everyone that has to eat but maybe not take an order while you do so, or take your order to go along with the one you’re delivering,” one commenter said.

“These drivers have the ability to literally make their own schedules too, I don't see why dude couldn't just finish an order and spend the next half hour eating before accepting another one,” another agreed.

Others were raving about the restaurant and the staff’s kindness.

“Why is no one talking about how nice the restaurant was though. They had no obligation to put in the extra time, money and effort but they still did to ensure the customer had a great experience. Driver is getting a 1 star but that place needs 5 stars and a tip on next visit for sure,” said one commenter.

“Idk where you ordered from but I would have them as a favorite after that. Thanks for having my back, random restaurant staff,” another agreed.

“I'd be mad at the guy that ate my food but I'd totally respect the restaurant for doing that,” said a third.

“Can we just celebrate the person who wrote that note for a second? The fact that person exists made my day brighter,” another person said.

“I’ve had someone take a bite of my food!”

However, it inspired many to share their own delivery driver horror stories - and it wasn’t pretty.

Multiple people said they’d experienced drivers eating their food.

“I've had someone take a bite of my food. Like at that point just eat the whole thing,” said one commenter.

“In London every time me or one of my mates bought something from MC Donalds the driver will eat a few fries/nuggets. We stopped ordering from MC Donalds because of this…” said another.

Others said they simply never delivered theirs at all.

“dude sat at the restaurant for 20 minutes, it was 2 fast food burgers and onion rings, this was already 25 minutes after I ordered so it was definitely ready (that store isn't busy, ever), and after that 20 minutes, he ‘completed’ the order,” said one commenter.

“Had someone order from Mac Donald’s over Christmas for everyone who was working. We watched FOR AN HOUR our Uber driver DRIVE PAST US and go all the way into town and stop where we assumed was his house with our food. Cancelled the order and got Deliveroo instead which showed up in 10 minutes,” another said.

“I had an order in December where the guy got my order then drove to another neighbourhood 5 minutes away and didn't leave for over an hour,” a third added.

“I reached out to support and they said they reached out to the driver but they never moved and eventually I had to get a refund and re-order everything. Pretty sure the guy stole my food, but I didn't even have the option of leaving a driver review, only for the restaurant.”

“Bring back in house delivery drivers!”

The message at the end of all this, is bring back in-house delivery drivers!

“I used to do food delivery in my late teens/early 20s for a tiny little restaurant - I was the only driver they had. And honestly, it wasn't a bad job at all,” one commenter said.

“I kinda liked getting to know the regulars, and they always tipped great (& tipping at all isn't normal or expected here). Some of them even gave me sweets or booze as thanks, especially around Christmas. People generally just seem to appreciate a familiar face delivering their food.”

“Bring back in house delivery drivers!” another agreed.

“Company paid delivery drivers need to make a comeback,” said a third.
