Stacey Eden says she first noticed her boyfriend’s secretive behaviour in the way he used his phone.
So, when she created a fake profile on a dating app and caught him red-handed about to cheat, she was devastated – but not surprised.
The Sydney local first found out her partner was on the “hook-up” app after a good Samaritan reached out on Facebook, saying she’d seen his profile.
Ms Eden then decided to make a fake account on the same app, determined to track him down herself.
At 1pm one recent afternoon, she ‘liked’ one of his photos.
He messaged her first, using a misspelled name and claiming he had no social media in an attempt to conceal his real identity.
After exchanging numbers that same day, Ms Eden, posing as another woman, received underwear selfies from her boyfriend, and she sent similar photos back.
Later that evening, he agreed to meet his supposed date, and she saw this as her chance to confront him face-to-face.
“I had so many emotions going through my body,” Ms Eden told news.com.au.
“I spent the whole day thinking about it. I was full of adrenaline, shock, anger, sadness, and hurt that he was doing this to me.”
She admitted she initially “didn’t want to believe it” and hoped it wasn’t true, wanting to see the best in him.
After finishing work, she drove to the meeting spot, which was two hours from where her boyfriend lived, and half an hour from her house.
Around this time, her boyfriend messaged the ‘real’ Ms Eden, saying: “I’m going to sleep baby, I’m getting tired … have a good shift at work”.
Shortly after, at around 10pm, she filmed him getting out of his car and walking across the street to meet his “date” at the fake address she’d given him.
In a now-viral clip on TikTok, she showed herself crouching behind a wall, waiting.
The footage then shows him pacing up and down, appearing to search for the address.
In another video, Ms Eden shared the heated moment she confronted him.
She can be heard asking, “What are you doing?” to which he replied, “I knew it was you”.
His excuse was that he was just trying to prove it was her behind the profile.
Even if she believed that, which she doesn’t, she said all his actions leading up to the meetup were enough to consider him a cheater, even if it was just “emotional cheating”.
“I ended things that night, and now I just pity him,” she said.
Since then, he has repeatedly tried to contact her.
“I’ve blocked him on multiple accounts. He sent me food to apologise, turned up with flowers, breakfast, and gifts. He’s really sorry and begging for another chance,” she shared.
“He said he will delete all his socials, give me passwords, give me his location …”
But, for Ms Eden, “It’s too little, too late now”.
For other women with similar suspicions about their partner, Ms Eden advises, “Listen to your gut instinct and pay attention to the little things.
“There were so many signs leading up to it – never touching his phone around me, his excessive following list, his multiple social media accounts. Trust your intuition.”
