Dogs often get a bad rap when it comes to bad behaviour – chewing shoes, digging holes in gardens, and biting postmen.
But well trained dogs are social creatures that will reward you again and again with trust, love and loyalty.
In another short, informative video for Dogs of Oz, two of Australia’s top dog trainers Ryan and Jen Tate reveal to owners the best way to train your dog by “rewarding good behaviour”.
“Dogs repeat behaviours that are rewarded,” Ryan says.
“Be it via treats, games, attention, freedom, social interactions or life rewards.”

“A lot of dogs will scratch the back door or bark at you to get let into the house,” adds Jen, “If you open the door while the dog is barking or scratching that will become the norm.
“Instead wait until your dog is quiet or doing something else before opening it.”
