Americans are known for doing all kinds of weird things when it comes to food. But, there’s one Aussie food they haven’t quite been able to get behind, and that’s vegemite.
However, one American has taken to social media sharing their attempt at making vegemite edible, and Aussies are appalled to say the least.

“How’s my latest vegemite toast?”
An American Reddit user has taken to the platform asking for approval from their Aussie counterparts on their attempt at vegemite toast.
However, their vegemite toast is a little more elaborate than most.
“American here again, how's my latest vegemite toast? This time with butter, cheese, and a touch of dill and smoked paprika,” they wrote, accompanied by some photos of the meal.
Whilst, in all honesty, it looks pretty good in the pictures, as someone who has vegemite toast almost every day, I’m pretty disgusted. There’s a right and a wrong way to do vegemite, and this isn’t it!

“This feels culturally insensitive”
The majority of Aussies in the comments were in the same boat, shocked to say the least at the… creative attempt.
“BREAD, TOASTED. TOAST, BUTTERED. BUTTER.. VEGEMITED. CHEESE OPTIONAL. DONE,” said one person.
“Looking at this I feel like the Italian chef on that British show when the host asked when to add cream to the carbonara,” said another.
“Mate, what the fuck are you doing?” one said simply.
“A touch of wot m8,” another agreed.
“Look, it's probably delicious, but this feels culturally insensitive,” another joked.
“That actually looks really good!”
However, some were a little more open to the idea, complimenting the poster on their experimentation. It’s better than the thick layer of vegemite we usually see from that side of the world, right??
“Aussies like to give others a hard time for a bit of fun. I'm Australian. I enjoy experimenting with Vegemite and have it in ways that 'you shouldn't '. I always put some on my toast or English muffins with bacon and egg and sometimes avo. Anyway, that actually looks really good! I hope it tastes just as good!?” one person said.
“Don't let all these weird-ass comments & downvotes affect you OP. Us Aussies don't usually do fancy vegemite on toast like you've posted & it appears that a few jimmies have been rustled. You do you :)” said another.
“Mate, you tell us! This is something most of us will never have tried. Ps. A simple Vegemite on toast plus avocado is a winner, if you haven’t tried,” a third agreed.
