A recent incident at Disney World has prompted widespread backlash after a mum was seen lifting her son over the safety rails enclosing a ride.

The little boy then ran out onto the tracks to retrieve a toy that he had dropped and then raced back to his mum

When a concerned onlooker captured the moment on TikTok, it understandably left thousands of people in shock.

"Not sure who needs to hear this, but do not place your kids into a ride path"

Posting to her account, @disneyparksdi wrote: "When you just want to watch paint dry at Disney... but some mum dropped her kid on the ride path."

She then pans her camera away from a picture she's painting of Minnie Mouse, over to the tracks of a nearby ride called Speedway. A mum is seen hoisting her son, who looks to be around five, over the railings.

He then runs out to retrieve a toy before heading back and being picked up by his mum and brought back over the fence.

"What did I just witness?" Di wrote over the video.

She added in the caption: "Not sure who needs to hear this but do not place your kids into a ride path!"

"Is a $10 toy more important than his life?"

The internet was equally taken aback by the unsettling scene, with many raising valid concerns about the child's safety.

"Just ask the staff and they'll walk out themselves and get it for you. For that ride, they can even go and do that without stopping it," pointed out one user.

Another said, "That could have ended tragically, why didn't she just ask a Cast Member to get it?"

"I literally work at Speedway. This is ridiculous that his mum did this. The damage those cars can do…" said one man.

And another Speedway Cast Member added: "DO NOT DO THIS. These cars are GUEST OPERATED. WE CAN NOT STOP THE CARS OURSELVES, THIS IS A HUGE NO."

"So dangerous! As a mum, I would never put my children in any danger! Especially over a toy," slammed another mum.

"I still haven't recovered, that was nuts," another viewer commented.

"The lack of common sense... isn't it obvious that he could have got run over?" mentioned a different woman.

Another hypothesised: "If he were to get hurt, I'm sure she would have sued..."

"Is a $10 toy more important than his life?" mused another.

And someone else concluded: "This is why death rates have been going up in theme parks."
