'That's so gross': Couple slammed for 'selfish' restaurant act

"People are so selfish nowadays. As long as they are happy, what else matters right?"

Dos and Don'ts: Understanding cafe etiquette

People with dogs know how easy it is to love them.

They’ll always be happy to see you after a long day at work, their antics provide hours of entertainment, and they provide one of the closest things many people will get to unconditional love.

However, dog ownership has gone a little over the top in recent years, with people claiming their dogs are ‘therapy animals’ to get their pooches into places that we’ve been quite comfortable having as dog-free for decades.

That has been perfectly portrayed by a photo going viral on Reddit showing a young couple in Sydney’s Inner West enjoying a meal at a fast food restaurant with their dog in tow.

"People are so selfish nowadays"

That may not seem that bad on face value, but it’s the positioning of the dog, who is sitting on the bench, that has the internet up in arms.

“I love dogs, but what kind of an idiot puts their dog on a table where people eat!” one person said. “I bet this couple doesn’t pick up their dog’s s*** from the footpath too.”

"People are so selfish nowadays," another person wrote. "As long as they are happy, what else matters right?

"I have two dogs, but they don't go to grocery stores or restaurants."

That was the overwhelmingly popular sentiment, as most people correctly identified that having a dog sit on a surface where people routinely eat was gross.

“That’s moronic,” one dog owner said. “I don’t want canine a**hole germs in my burrito, por favor.”

“Would you like a side of pink eye with that burrito?” another person joked.

“I can see three dogs in this photo,” another person said.

"Your dog isn't going to get anxiety because you didn't take them to Guzman y Gomez"

Other people commented that scenes like this one were becoming more common across Sydney.

“Noticed a lot more people sneaking their small doggos into places,” one person wrote.

“Have to wonder where some rules changed or are people getting away with it because others don’t see their dogs?”

“Inner West is rife for this,” another person said.

“I don’t hate dogs, but you shouldn’t be able to take them wherever you want.

“Your dog isn’t going to get anxiety because you didn’t take them to Guzman ‘y’ Gomez.”

"I've seen people take their dogs and cats everywhere like it's nothing"

Some people pointed out that while the sight is uncommon in Australia, other parts of the world are much more liberal with where you can take your pets.

“I’m of the opinion that Sydney/Australia is one of the lesser pet-accommodating places I’ve been,” one person wrote.

“All around Europe and California I’ve seen people take their dogs and cats everywhere like it’s nothing.

"Hell, I’ve seen a guy at an airport with nothing but a passport in one hand and a chihuahua in another.”
