A major secondary school in Adelaide’s southeast has been forced to ramp up security after a series of threatening emails were sent to the principal.
Guardians of students attending Glenunga International High School were informed of the threats earlier this week and told additional security measures had been put in place, including undercover police and security patrols and changes to traffic arrangements.
The education department said it was aware of “a series of emails of concern” sent to the principal Wendy Johnson AM and was working with the school and police to investigate the matter.
“This is an evolving situation, with the situation continuously evaluated and monitored with the safety of students and staff in mind,” a spokesperson said.
“SAPOL is investigating the origin of the emails, which have included threats, and security measures at the school have been increased out of an abundance of caution.”
The department sent a letter to parents advising them of the situation and asked them to report anything unusual in the proximity of the school to Crime Stoppers.
“The school continues to operate as usual and to work with SAPOL in order to ascertain the risks while not wishing to compromise any investigation,” the spokesperson added.
A SA Police spokesperson said they were aware of the threats.
“Police are aware of a series of emails of concern, some of which contain threats, received by staff at an Adelaide high school and are conducting the appropriate investigations,” they said.
