Multiple people have sustained life-threatening injuries in a horrific crash between a bus and a car towing a caravan, while others remain trapped inside the wreckage.
Emergency services were called to the Bruce Highway near Gumlu, in Queensland’s Whitsundays region, just after 11am on Sunday following reports of a serious collision between two vehicles.
Queensland Ambulance confirmed multiple people are being treated for “life-threatening injuries” at the scene.

However, a spokesperson could not clarify how many as the incident continues to unfold.
While a number of people have been extracted from the wreckage, it is understood others remain trapped inside the crashed vehicles.
Multiple paramedic crews are on scene, alongside multiple police units and other emergency responders.
Two rescue helicopters have also been tasked to the scene.
The Bruce Highway is closed in both directions in the aftermath of the crash.
Police are urging motorists to avoid the area or expect long delays.
