Materials:
- White Air-Drying Clay
- Small Round Bowl
- Cling Wrap
- Paint brush
- Acrylic Paint
- Clay Varnish
- Needle and Thread
- Picture Hanging Wire
- Beads and/or Chimes
Step 1: Shape the Jellyfish Head
- Take approximately 100g of clay, kneading it until it’s smooth and pliable, then roll it into a ball.
- On a surface covered with cling wrap, flatten the ball into a circle 2-3mm thick. Ensure it’s large enough to drape over the small bowl.
- Cover the bowl with 2-3 layers of cling wrap to prevent sticking, then gently lay the clay over it. Use damp fingers to smooth out any creases, but avoid letting the clay go over the bowl’s rim to prevent it from sticking.
- Using the end of a paintbrush, pierce one hole at the top center and six evenly spaced holes around it. Ensure the holes go completely through to the cling wrap.
- Allow the clay to dry for 1-2 days.
Step 2: Decorate!
- Once the clay has dried, paint it with acrylic colors of your choice. Aqua and sea blue pair beautifully with mother-of-pearl beads!
- After the paint dries, apply two coats of clay varnish for a polished, durable finish.
Step 3: Add the Tentacles
- Cut three strings, each 30-40cm long. Thread one string through two adjacent outer holes, letting the ends dangle beneath the clay head.
- String beads and/or chimes onto the dangling ends. (Thrift stores are a great place to find unique pieces!) Repeat for the remaining strings to create six tentacles.
- Thread picture hanging wire through the center hole, forming a loop at the top for hanging.
Hang and Enjoy!
Your beautiful Jellyfish Wind Chime is now ready to be enjoyed, and sure to delight all who see and hear it. Hang it outdoors and watch as it floats softly on the breeze!
