'It'll help them get followers': Mum charges $750 for 'influencer' baby names

For girls, consider masculine ones like Camden and Logan, and if you want your future son's Instagram handle to stand out, Starling and Ludo could be your best bet.

I chose a name for my baby my family doesn't like

Naming a child these days isn’t just about picking one that sounds good and won’t get your child horrifically bullied at school.

Parents are now hiring baby name consultants to help them pick out the perfect names that will sound “cool” as a TikTok or Instagram handle. Yes, really.

Steph Coffield, 40, is one such consultant who is hired by expectant parents to help select a name for their child.

Sharing to her Instagram, @nameswithsteph, she details everything you’d want to know about the job, from how much she’s paid and examples of the unique names she comes up with.

Uncommon girls' names

According to Steph's website, her services cost anywhere from $40 for five name suggestions to $750 for a ‘luxury interactive experience’ which involves unlimited name suggestions, three video calls and a personalised certificate with the baby name, origin and meaning.

As a mum herself, Steph is dialled in to what’s trending in the world of baby names, especially uncommon monikers that will bode well in our increasingly social-media-driven world.

According to one of her stories, she says, "We are in a stage where everyone wants their kid to kind of stand out and be unique." She also suggests that parents want their kids to have a cool name handle for Instagram and TikTok in the future.

So, she helps parents pick out names that will help them do exactly that.

Parents should consider girls' names that are masculine or gender-neutral, according to the mum.

She suggests names such as Camden, Collins, Delaney, Spencer, Logan, Leni and Marlowe.

“Old-fashioned baby girl names are truly having their moment right now,” she also says, putting forward names like Birdena, Doretta and Franca.

Lastly, she thinks Barbie movie-themed names like Greta and Margot will also be on the rise this year.

Boys' names and names to avoid

In terms of boys' names, she likes Breckett, Cline, Delfino, Frey, Ludo and Novian and says they’ve hardly been given to any kids, making them extremely unique.

She also likes Gossamer, Lansing, Rhodas and Starling as they’re “whimsical” and “uncommon.”

In case you’re after even more inspo (for your own TikTok star in the making), Steph also likes Rockwell, Stellan, Ginger, Cirillo and Rennox.

And that's not all! If you’re trying to figure out what to avoid, Steph says the following names will be trending downward: Jaxon, Jaden, Braden, Kayleigh, Susan and Diane.

Fair enough! We can’t imagine a famous influencer called Diane in 20 years time!

But Ginger... absolutely! *Follow*
