I lost it at my ex-partner and his girlfriend over their creepy baby name

"I was kicked out of the hospital for making a scene, but it's just so f**king weird."

Rules for visiting a newborn

A woman has taken to a popular forum to ask if she was in the wrong for berating her daughter's father and his new partner for what they named their child.

So why did she care so much?

Here's what went down.

"I was excited for my daughter to have a sibling"

The woman began her post with some context.

She explained that she ended up falling pregnant with her now 10-year-old daughter during a "drunken hookup with a friend in my mid-20s."

When she found out, they decided to keep the child and co-parent and remain friends. "We were never a couple and we didn't want to be one either," she says.

Cut to the present day and her baby daddy now has a new girlfriend who is currently pregnant with their child.

The OP says she's been "as supportive to them both" without crossing any lines. She's even offered to help babysit.

All in all, she was excited for her daughter to have a sibling.

"She didn't see an issue and thought it was a pretty name"

The mum then got a rude surprise when she arrived at the hospital to visit the couple and their newborn.

"I brought my daughter to meet her little sister and when they introduced us to the baby, I was shocked," she said.

"They'd used my daughter's name.

"The mum didn't even seem to have an issue with this when she introduced the baby."

Meanwhile, the dad was just avoiding eye contact in the corner and seemed uncomfortable.

"I asked them what they were playing at and they told me to calm down and not overreact. The girlfriend told me she didn't see the issue and it was a pretty name.

"I asked them if they'd named the baby for my daughter trying to understand the logic here but his girlfriend said that no, it was just a pretty name she liked. They also weren't planning on using a nickname or a middle name to address her on a daily basis."

"I told them they were being ridiculous and that they couldn't do this, I then told his girlfriend that I found this frankly creepy and told my ex he was being spineless if he was happy to go along with this."

The dad then suggested that their 10-year-old daughter could use a nickname but she shut that down, saying, "Why is it more reasonable for a girl who has used that name for a decade to get rid of her name, compared to a baby who had no concept of what a name was yet."

The girlfriend then called the OP a b*tch for "talking to her like that after she just gave birth" and asked the nurses to remove her as she was being disruptive.

The OP then pointed out that now the half-sisters will share the same first AND last name.

"It just felt malicious and deliberate, as if she's trying to replace my daughter. Also, for them to spring it on me in the first meeting... so weird," she concluded.

"This is so unfair to the baby, to be used as a competition prop"

Sympathy flowed in for the OP, with one person agreeing: "From the outside, it sure reads like she wants to replace her partner's affection for his first daughter with his new baby. Of course, it's creepy."

Another person replied, saying: "And the suggestion that the 10yo should use a nickname? Wow. Talk about audacity."

"That is so unfair to the baby as well," a third added. "To be used as a competition prop and not a person that deserves their own place in this world."

Then this person had a more scathing take, writing: "Worse than creepy. Calculated and manipulative. She wants to get rid of OP and chose the nuclear option by attacking her daughter. I can see OP's relationship with the baby daddy being threatening to an insecure person due to it being seemingly (previously) a healthy friendship and not an ex that she can replace."
