A mum skipped the RSVP: what she did next was pure entitlement

"My husband thinks I should send her an invoice."

Mum rants about crap in party bag

Fairy bread and party bags — the two major drawcards of any children’s birthday party.

It’s usually an occasion for fun and harmony, but for one mum, it turned into the centre of unexpected drama.

After sending out invitations to her eight-year-old’s class in December, she set an RSVP deadline for this month.

"She looked annoyed"

“We hired a magician and included personalised party bags that the magician makes himself. They each have the child’s name on the stuff inside, and it also included a magic wand,” she said.

“I also ordered Domino’s Pizza, but just enough for the partygoers, as again, it can be very expensive.”

But one mother, whom she refers to as Amanda, showed up to the party — despite never responding to the RSVP.

“I did say, ‘Oh, you didn’t RSVP, but it’s absolutely fine to stay. But sorry, I don’t have a party bag for James, just to warn you,’” she recounted.

Amanda wasn’t too thrilled about James being excluded from the treat.

The mum has since taken to a parenting forum to seek opinions about whether her actions were unreasonable.

“She looked annoyed and just said, ‘I did RSVP, didn’t I?’ She checked her phone before saying, ‘Oh dear, I forgot. What a shame he won’t have a party bag'."

To make matters even more complicated, Amanda then informed the host that James was now vegan — despite previously being vegetarian.

“I said, ‘Oh, sorry, there are no vegan pizzas ordered.’ Again, she looked annoyed and said how it would be awful not to feed him.”

In an effort to keep the peace, she called Domino’s to add on an extra pizza.

“I was pissed off. If that was me, I’d have at least ordered one myself for my child. But this woman is deeply entitled. I would never leave a child without food, though, and feel like I did the right thing,” she said.

"He doesn't have friends"

Thinking the drama was over once the party ended, she was shocked to receive a text message in the days that followed.

“Apparently, the other kids are all bragging about their magic tricks that they’ve learnt with the party bag stuff, and he’s feeling left out. She is forever messaging the mums’ group, moaning that he’s left out and nobody is his friend, and expects us all to prioritise this with our own kids.”

Amanda believes spare party bags should have been available for James.

The forum was quick to condemn Amanda’s actions.

“Poor James. I think it’s quite obvious why he doesn’t have any friends,” one commenter wrote.

“She is outrageous for not RSVPing and then complaining,” another said.

“I absolutely wouldn’t reply. You’d only be feeding the madness of it,” advised a third.

The mother believes Amanda is the only person who should be answering to James.

“The only person answerable to her son is her and her husband for sloppy organisation. Plenty of children in the class didn’t attend the party,” she explained.

Her husband thinks she should take it a step further.

“My husband thinks I should send my bank details and ask for the extra $20 that the vegan pizza cost,” she said.
