The new collection
Target’s brand new summer collection has just officially hit stores across Australia.
The range, which includes Target’s base collection as well as its popular Preview and Lily Loves lines, aims to make sure every type of person is covered this summer, with versatile sets and dresses in a wide range of colourways and patterns.
Of course, I had to test it out for myself, and I was not disappointed.

My thoughts on Target’s summer range
Overall, it’s undeniable that the people at Target know what they’re doing when it comes to offering trendy pieces for a low, affordable price.
Of the three ranges, here are my top picks:
Linen Long Sleeve Shirt ($40) and Linen Short ($35)
As far as summer outfits go, a good linen shirt and shorts is a necessity. They’re such versatile pieces which can be worn alone or together, and dressed up or down, and Target’s renditions are no different.
The European Linen Long Sleeve Shirt feels pretty standard as far as linen shirts go. I sized up two sizes in this shirt for a more oversized, relaxed fit, though you could get your normal size depending on what kind of look you’re going for. The quality feels really nice, especially for the price!
But, my favourite of the two pieces was definitely the shorts. The fit and drawstring mean they sit really nicely and are super cute - I definitely think I’ll be getting a lot of wear out of these this summer!
Both the shirt and shorts come in a plethora of different colours, so you can mix and match them how you choose.
Linen Blend Maxi Shift Dress ($60)
The Linen Blend Maxi Shift Dress is one of the new launches from within the Preview line - one of my personal favourites at Target.
The dress is a full length dress made from a linen/viscose blended fabrication, and comes in black, cream and red.
The one gripe I have with this dress is that it isn’t lined at all, meaning the lighter cream shade in particular is a little bit sheer. However, with the red and black this isn’t an issue at all.
Despite not being lined, this dress doesn’t feel cheap at all, and actually feels like quite a good quality fabric. The linen is smooth and breathable, though the shape makes it feel a little more formal. I got my normal size in this dress, and I find it drapes quite nicely rather than looking too boxy or form fitted.
This is a piece I think you could wear just about anywhere - to brunch, the beach, or even to work (like I do).
Strappy Tiered Maxi Dress ($70)
This dress from Target’s Lily Loves range was the first thing I saw and couldn’t wait to pick up.
The Strappy Tiered Maxi Dress is a floor-length, slightly A-line dress with a V-neckline. The dress has frills all over it, with spaghetti straps that cross and tie in the back.
In addition to the black colour I picked up, it also comes in blue, an ivory stripe, and a pale orange pattern.
Though it’s a little tricky to put on by yourself the first time, figuring out how to lace the back whilst the front stays in the right spot, I do think this dress is stunning.
I got my normal size in this one and it fits perfectly, and feels really comfortable.
Similar to the shift dress, this one has the same problem with the lighter colours being slightly see-through. They do have lining underneath, however on me it cuts off just below the knees, which makes it look slightly cheap. In the black, though, this isn’t an issue, but for this reason I think it's slightly overpriced at $70 - get it on sale if you can!
Overall, I think this dress is so pretty, and would be perfect for any events you have on this summer.
Linen Blend Scallop Hem Mini Dress ($40)
Another pick from Target’s Lily Loves range is the Linen Blend Scallop Hem Mini Dress.
In this dress in particular, you can really see that Target is hopping on trends, which I think is awesome for people hoping to get the look at a more affordable price point.
This one in particular has the scallop hem across the bottom of the mini dress, which I think is so cute!
The dress has a high neckline, and also ties at the back to create shape. In addition to black, it also comes in white and a blue floral pattern.
In this one, I did have to go up one size, and could have probably gone up two sizes from what I purchased in the other two dresses. If you’re on the taller side, or have wider hips, I recommend doing the same, or trying it on in store if you can, just to make sure you choose the size most comfortable for you!
Otherwise, I think this dress is adorable for a beach day or for going out for lunch. It’s lined and feels really high quality, especially for only $40. I can see it being really popular for Gen Z/Gen Alpha!
