Mum's dishwasher hack makes Christmas lunch prep easy peasy

Christmas day is always a little bit stressful, especially if you're the one hosting.

So we're already on the lookout for tips that will help us put on an impressive spread, without spending too much time in the kitchen.

Now, an American woman thinks she has the answer to one of Christmas Day's biggest time-eaters.

Potato prep.

Armed with a secret passed down from her grandma, Janelle from @thedailynelly took to Instagram to share the potato-cleaning hack she swears by.

The hack will take the stress out of Christmas potato prepping

In a video titled, 'Grandma's best Thanksgiving secret', Janelle begins stacking unwashed potatoes into her dishwasher — something she says saves her a lot of time and effort.

Then the person behind the camera asks her what she's doing, to which she replies: "This is the best way to do it. It saves you so much time."

She added, "Do you know how many people we have coming? And this is three bags of potatoes."

After layering them on the top part of the dishwasher, she then begins adding them to the lower shelf, even putting them inside the cutlery holder.

Providing more context to the bizarre process, she says, "You know how these are really, really dirty?

"Normally you would clean potatoes in a bowl – but you can’t fit that many. You can only fit five in a bowl.

"And we have three bags of potatoes, so the fastest way to wash them is by putting them in your dishwasher."

She emphasises that it's crucial not to use any dishwashing tablets or soap - because, that would be weird...

Wash them on a four-minute rinse cycle

"This is the fun bit," she continues.

"You see all these different cycles – anti-bacterial, speed cycle, China etc – we just do 'rinse only'.

"And then we’re going to press start for four minutes – literally four minutes."

Then after the timer goes off, the woman pulls out a potato and shows the camera how they look.

"They’re clean, you didn’t have to hand wash them.

"I’m telling you – it saves time on Christmas when you’re hosting a ton of people."

"You truly CANNOT eat at everybody's house"

The internet was horrified, with many commenters saying it was, "disgusting" and "gross."

"Still a hard pass," said someone else. "So nasty," agreed another.

"You truly CANNOT eat at everybody’s house," declared one man.

"What about the residue that was left in the little area where you put your dishwashing cleaning pod?!?🤢" pointed out another viewer.

And others claimed that it would be quicker to simply hand wash them.

"This is stupid. You'd be finished washing them normally by the time you stack all of those potatoes and rinse them in the dishwasher..." concluded an unimpressed follower.
