Today’s Deborah Knight has admitted she was not prepared for the sustained scrutiny that would accompany her appointment to Channel 9’s battling breakfast show.
“Look, the level of scrutiny on the show has been more than I expected and that has not eased up to be honest, so that has caught me off guard,” Knight said.
“But behind the scenes it (the show) is actually feeling really great. The show’s vibe is great and we are feeling comfortable with each other because it takes time to work as a team (when there is) a whole bunch of new people working together.
“Six months on I am happier where I am at, but the level of scrutiny that the show is still attracting never ceases to amaze me.”
With ratings floating around a daily average of 200,000 viewers, it has been a difficult transition period for Knight and her co-host, Georgie Gardner.
“It is a long haul and that is the reality of it,” Knight said. “If you completely change the line-up of hosts on a show then you have to give the audience time to get used to that.”
Knight and Gardner will walk the red carpet at the Logies on the Gold Coast on June 30 with Knight in Melbourne last week for fittings with couturier Sonia Cappellazzo.
A dancefloor diva at heart, Knight said she would be tempering her party vibe on Logies night owing to Today’s broadcast from the Gold Coast the following morning.

“I have been known to take my sneakers and get changed before we head to the after-party because we do have a bit of a disco,” she said.
“The last couple of years I have completely changed my outfit so I could have a decent dance, but getting up early the following morning is going to curtail my activities.”
