Fitzroy’s Black Pearl bar on Brunswick St ranked 22 in the World’s 50 Best Bar awards

FANCY a drink? Fitzroy’s Black Pearl is again named one of the World’s Best 50 Bars, while a Melbourne expat’s New York speakeasy is named at number five. See the list.

THE best bars for booze around the world have been named, and Melbourne’s Black Pearl remains at the top of its game.

The 15-year-old Fitzroy bar was ranked number 22 in the World’s 50 Best Bars Awards at a ceremony in London overnight.

Though it fell 12 spots from last year’s top 10 ranking, it remains in the top half of the prestigious list and is Melbourne’s only bar to be named.

Attaboy in New York, owned by Melbourne expat Sam Ross, regained form rising six spots from last year’s list to now sit at number 5.

While it dropped six spots from last year, Sydney’s The Baxter Inn was named best bar in Australasia for the third year in a row, while Bulletin Place, also in Sydney, fell 18 spots but remained in the list at number 46.

London and New York dominated the awards, with The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog in New York taking over the top spot from last year’s number 1, Artesian in London.

It’s the first time in five years a New York bar has been named the world’s best.

Seven bars across Asia made the list, including Singapore’s Manhattan, which took the crown of best regional bar from its city sibling 28 Hongkong St.

This year’s list features bars from 27 cities in 19 countries and is voted on by more than 400 industry experts from around the world.

Compiled by Drinks International, the list is in its eighth year and is the world’s leading bar barometer, charting trends in drinks and service across continents.
