A COMPANY controlled by Earthcore founder Spiro Boursinos will be wound up only weeks after this year’s festival was embroiled in controversy when 32 acts did not appear at the festival.
Many artists claimed they did not receive work permits, flight tickets and payment.
According to company documents lodged with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission a notification of application to wind up Yellow Sunshine Pty Ltd was lodged on December 4, but was effective three days before on the first of the month. Yellow Sunshine Pty Ltd is the majority owner of Earthcore.
According to documents, Mr Boursinos has been the sole director and secretary of Yellow Sunshine since at least 2013.
Mr Boursinos has been involved in a series of other companies which have been deregistered.
This includes Earthcore Productions in 2002, of which he was a director. It also includes Good Trix Pty Ltd which was deregistered in 2008 of which he was also a director.
It follows revelations the annual “bush doof” Earthcore 2017: Summer Dreaming set to take place in late November lost up to 32 acts before it was meant to kick off in Elmore Fields in regional Victoria. The scheduled Earthcore festivals in NSW, WA and QLD were cancelled just days prior to the events taking place.
Late last month many artists posted disgruntled messages on social media claiming they had not been paid, including Tel Aviv trance act Coming Soon which posted on its Facebook page: “The reason for the cancellation is because the owner of this festival didn’t pay us until now and didn’t even book a flight. After promising every week that he will send and after many [discussions] of cancelling us if we will not be patient. We just have to mention that we never got treated like that ever in our 15 years in the industry and we will never work with this promoter ever again!!”
In response, Earthcore posted on its Facebook about the cancelled events, citing a lack of ticket sales and an “advertised smear campaign by international artist Coming Soon”.
