Flemington Farmers’ Market

Every Sunday this is a great place to have a walk through. All the traders are accredited with the Victorian Farmers’ Market Association, which means they all grow or make the products they sell. 175 Mt Alexander Rd

Organic Wholefoods

I have mastered some awesome curry dishes using good-quality legumes and pulses. These guys have a great range of dry goods, all certified organic and sourced locally. 137 Mt Alexander Rd

Hem 27 Vietnamese

An awesome bowl of pho at this great little local is my go-to on a sleepy day off. Other favourites are the soft shell crab soup or the rice paper rolls. On weekdays you can get a great seat near the kitchen and chat to the cooks while you eat.

Shop 27, Showgrounds Village, 320 Epsom Rd, Ascot Vale

Provata Deli

I always swing past and see my mate Steve for a quick Allpress coffee and a Portuguese tart as well as some supplies for a fast dinner option. This will usually be some orecchiette, pecorino and some beautiful pesto. Shop 12, Showgrounds Village, 320 Epsom Rd, Ascot Vale

Wolf and Hound Cafe

This dog-friendly cafe is a favourite. They do a mean Cuban-style pork sandwich and a great coffee. 60 Pin Oak Cres

M Yong Tofu

These guys come from Kuala Lumpur and have really nailed the food. It’s cheap, cheerful and tasty. You can pop in for an early dinner and be in and out in 20 minutes — my kind of fast food. 314 Racecourse Rd
